So Rikku was totally Tidus's best Spiran buddy on the pilgrimage. (Sorry, Wakka. She fed Tidus when he was hungry. You did not.) They were both sunny, energetic, and kind of outsiders to the whole somber Yevon culture---well, Auron was the other one, but he was secretive about everything. Tidus had always wondered what it would be like to have a family after his parents left and Auron became his grumpy not-uncle, and in Spira he almost had it.
Flash forward to Vaikuntha. He knows Rikku has a life of her own to get back to, but he's also kind of picked up that she wasn't so sure of her path anymore. Being dead (ish), he sees this as a chance for one last fun adventure---if he had to be stuck with anyone from Spira, he's glad it was her. And he'll so proud of her for going after that pilot's license! can he have a ride pls
