It was something out of his control in a variety of senses. He couldn't do anything from this world and if he were to be sent back home he would undoubtedly return to being quite dead. He wasn't exactly a king of Lucis either, what with their ability to reach beyond the grave to ruin things for those still alive.

"I can't deny the fairness of that statement. The whole better here than dead aspect needs no further explanation to me."

He returns her lopsided grin with a crooked smirk. She wasn't wrong. It was concerning that it meant the Empire was there alone to muck up whatever there was to muck up but at this point what hadn't the Empire touched?
