the "braid as hairband" thing is actually a contemporary fashion thing that's popular in japan, or at least was a couple of years ago. it's less strange when you realize stuff like that is sold in the Japanese equivilant of Claire's

Given how - if you align the dates and days of the week - P5 likely took place in 2016 (and judging by all our tags with the P4 cast, that's what we've all been going with), it being popular a couple years ago actually fits that timeline pretty well.

makes sense to me. the design aesthetic for the whole game is very contemporary in general
