did u no that one of Hunk's first lines in all of Voltron is

"Uh, I hate to be the voice of reason here, always, but..."

Hunk sees Connie as a child, because no matter how maturely either of them treat her, she's still a 13-year-old human. He cannot ignore the smol factor. What she's shared about her world makes it seem dark and grim and intense, and the fact that she's so driven to work and to do things and excel is super worrying to him. Her room is a wreck, she's taking classes, she's trying to figure out Magitek...

Does she sleep? Is she eating? Is she okay? Considering how many Vaikunthan transplants don't know how to cook, he kinda expects to find her collapsed in a starved, exhausted heap somewhere. And that's super terrifying.

Shiro told Hunk to treat their Vaikunthan excursion like a vacation, and it's been very helpful for his sanity. So he's trying to pay that forward, and get Connie to lighten up, to take her eyes off of the prize, to relax, to have fun.

But if she ever mentions that the great head on his shoulders and the master-tier gut instincts are making her anxious, he might be accommodating. It's hard to say. He's the sort to do an I-told-you-so dance.

Pfff, I need to get to watching VLD at some point. AND AAAAAAAAAAA I'LL GET TO YOUR TAGS I SWEAR

The thing is, Connie actually likes Hunk. It's just weird for her because he is uncannily similar to Steven. Granted, she might be projecting a little bit (and is aware that she's projecting a little bit), but the way he acts is very familiar. Given time and more of an opportunity to get to know the big palooka, she'll stop constantly drawing parallels to Steven, but she's looking for him everywhere since he was her primary emotional support back on Earth and most likely her only friend.

And because of him being the only stabilizing element in her life that encouraged her to chill (Priyanka was an Academics Mom, her dad wasn't present enough to counteract that, and Pearl is a thousands of years old ex-slave warrior with PTSD and posthumous relationship difficulties), she's going a little ham on, well, everything. She's one of those idiots who isn't obsessed with success but will still go to unhealthy lengths to obtain it anyways because of how she was brought up. Hunk could actually be a stabilizing influence on her if they got closer.

YO TAKE YOUR TIME ON MEDIA CONSUMPTION AND TAGS. Trust me, Hunk's inbox is explosive enough that it'll probably be a few days after your tags that I even get around to replying, and VLD's next season is coming out in just under three weeks so. May as well binge it then.

And yeah as someone who's well-versed in both canons, I definitely drew a lot of parallels between the two goobs before Hunk and Connie even talked about it, and it's funny. Also, his instances of screaming and crying aside, Hunk's actually really good at coping with his stress and I'm real interested in seeing how those interactions go once they start happening!
