Test Drive Meme III
  A. RETRIEVAL
Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you. The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space. It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. The other newly-awakened people have no idea how they came to be here, but now's a good time as ever to introduce yourself to the others on the airship and glean what information you can. B. CURTI CENTER
The researchers at the Curti Center are not quite so unprepared as last time, but it is still obvious that they are struggling to understand the sudden influx of interdimensional travelers from the Dream Width. "Please step into the lobby for a quick survey. Perhaps there is some common thread we haven't discovered yet..." The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, write down all proffered information they can about the arrivals' homeworlds, provide maps and pamphlets about Vaikuntha and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can, considering they are still housing the previous arrivals here on the island. Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new (temporary) homes. C. UP IN THE SKY
There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home. You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness. D. GUILDS
Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous. So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe. E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS
Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it. Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere! F. SIDEQUESTS
Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays. It all started when you checked the Quest Board. All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone. G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND)
You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about layabout space-people not earning their keep, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well. There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for your permanent housing. H. MOGNET *Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail! Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling. I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER
The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. Riku | Kingdom Hearts (Eternal Darkness AU)
[He'd been...asleep? He didn't remember falling asleep...well, in the last couple days. Logic dictated he'd passed out at least once in the past week, but he didn't run on logic half of the time. Logic caused his brain to run in directions he didn't want to go in, directions he'd gone in the past and wanted to keep away from.
So he woke up on a cot and started panicking. He could see shapes and colors, and that meant his blindfold had come off at some point.]
What is this place? Did I pass out long enough to get abducted?
B: Curti Center
[At some point, Riku's found his blindfold. Well, not really, but at least he's found a strip of dark cloth to tie around his eyes, and it's made him feel a lot better.
And he's not in space anymore, but he's not anywhere any more familiar. The threat level of this new world is fairly low at the moment, since he can't detect the odor of darkness anywhere, but it hasn't made him drop his guard yet and so he's sticking to walls and less populated areas.
Care to confront the weirdo in the black coat and blindfold?]
K: Adventures in Chocobos
[This isn't the first time Riku's ever seen a chocobo. It is, however, the first time he's seen a chocobo and been able to pet it of his own volition, instead of helping speculate whether a chocobo produced a Nobody. (They don't, apparently).
You might have accompanied him to the stables, or possibly you work there, but either way you're about to become a teacher for a while.]
So, how do you ride these things?
[By now, he's abandoned his blindfold for a pair of very dark sunglasses. Progress!]

Naturally, he did.
He followed this crowd like Pooh Bear did honey. He belonged with this crowd. The moogles were just so cute. The best.
That was until a familiar shade of silver caught his attention. Sora halts in his tracks, causing someone to run into him from behind, but before there’s a conversation about this Sora’s running off toward the familiar sight. ]
Riku! Riku!? Hey!! Riku!
Thank you and hullo! Also sorry to Sora.
Sora is none of those people, but as soon as Riku hears his voice, he freezes. He's not ready to meet his (former?) friend again, not now, not like this. So he runs. Where, he doesn't really care, as long as he can put distance or even a door between the two of them.]

Sora halts as soon as he sees his friend turn and run. He stands there for a brief moment, which seemed like forever, to collect himself from the confusion that came from seeing his friend actually just turn and run from him. There were a few things he knew for sure just then, the first was this was definitely Riku, due to the obvious recognition of his name being hollered out to him. The second, Sora was absolutely going to chase him down and pounce on him. Nobody runs from Sora. Especially his friends. Riku is so going down. ]

[ Sora picks up his feet and ensues the chase after his silly 'ol friend. ]

And an unfamiliar area against him. It's easy enough to disappear into a crowd but leaving the lobby is another story. This door is locked, this one is Employees Only (and also locked), this one...well, that sure is a cleaning closet of some kind.
Eventually, he spots a side hallway and darts down it, only to be met with another locked door. Damn.]

He cuts the corner, fast, and he nearly knocks himself into the adjacent wall before he picks up the speed again and reaches for Riku. His friend is cornered and Sora doesn't have any intention of slowing until he crashes against his friend. ]

[He'd meant to say 'that wasn't necessary', but that's not what ended up coming out in the end. Sora knocked the wind and the words out of him.]

Why would you .... run from me?! [ He realizes his friend his blindfolded. ] Why are you wearing that ... [ Up comes the hand to try and pull it off. ]

[After what he said and did and allowed to happen. He made stupid decisions and saw worlds destroyed because of it. And here Sora was apparently pretending none of that happened. Or trying to make light of it, he wasn't sure.]

[Except colors. But they're not so important.]

[ He huffs and grunts, finally he pulls his hands down and grips Riku's shirt. He'll give the shirt a few tugs. ] What are you doing?! [ This is so distracting. ]

And then he went and became a Cavalier. Which means actually taking care of his OWN bird, thank you, and right now that means he just happens to be in the proper vicinity for being asked some questions while working at untangling the snarl of straps and leather that is supposed to be a bridle.
His chocobo watches with avian amusement from where it's tethered by a very loose rope.]

[HOLY SHIT IT'S ANSE--
Wait no it isn't. Xehanort's too young for one, maybe only a year or two older than Riku himself, and the voice isn't quite right, and his eyes are brown, not yellow. He does however ... recognize Riku. There had been a boy that looked VERY much alike back at that beach party once upon a time. ..Well if nothing goes hostile, far be it from him to start anything, but Riku's going to be watched closely.]
Do you have a bird picked out?

And he does have a bird picked out--or rather the bird has picked him out and has been softly kweh-ing and pecking at his pockets for the greens it knows are in them.]

[He also has a knife, in case not-Ansem does anything that seems slightly suspicious. Physical differences be damned, Xehanort still resembles his Heartless plenty.]

Nobody at recruitment bothered to even hand you a guidebook?
[That's too bad. Xehanort preferred research. He gestures to a nearby railing.]
Skip the saddle for now. Their feathers are thick enough. Lead your bird over to something you can use to climb on, and then mount up. You'll want to have your legs in front of its wings, use them to help hold you in place. They're all trained already, it shouldn't run off or try to murder you, and trusting your mount to know what it needs to do and when is going to be very important. So is trusting your own instincts.
[The useful .. and strange .. thing about these 'jobs' is the instinctive knowledge that went with it. Riku might not in theory know what the hell he's doing but once he goes to actually do it, if Xehanort's observations have been true, it should just work.]

[She was highly confused when she saw him put on a bandana over his eyes. She's heard of masked vigilantes but the fact that the thing HAD NO EYEHOLES was really concerning.]
You know... I'm pretty sure that's not how those masks are supposed to work.
