TEST DRIVE MEME
![]() ![]() A. RETRIEVAL Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you. The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space. It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. None of you know how you came to be here or where you are going, and the door to the cockpit is locked as the pilots focus on navigating the treacherous obstacles of the Dream Width. You might as well take this moment to introduce yourself to your fellow travelers. B. CURTI CENTER There’s an almost overwhelming aura of excitement in the tower as researchers rush to document this unprecedented number of interdimensional travelers. Over the commotion, the leaders of the Center struggle to explain, ‘Welcome to Vaikuntha. We don’t know why you’ve been brought here, but this is your new home.’ The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, provide maps and pamphlets about the world and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can under the circumstances. Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new (temporary) homes. C. UP IN THE SKY There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home. You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness. D. GUILDS Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous. So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe. E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it. Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere! F. SIDEQUESTS Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays. It all started when you checked the Quest Board. All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone. G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND) You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about layabout space-people not earning their keep, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well. There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for your permanent housing. H. MOGNET *Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail! Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling. I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. There’s no shame from running from enemies that are a higher level than you! J. WILD CARD Feeling inspired to create your own prompt? The power is yours! |
Fran | FFXII
[Viera might be born in the wood. Live with the wood. But they didn't have to remain with the wood. Fran believed long ago that the viera could become a part of the world, and so she did. Her freedom came at a great cost, but since leaving her home, she's seen things most viera would never set their eyes upon.
As a sky pirate, her feet left the ground and the vastness of the skies became a second home. Riding an airship is the most familiar sensation she's felt since arriving in this new world. Even if the wind on deck is a little chilly at times, Fran sits against the rail and watches as the clouds drift by.]
The world is changed. But the sky, the clouds, the wind, it is the same, is it not? A welcome sight, that.
[Sometimes it's the little things that can bring one comfort in strange surroundings.]
D. Guilds
[Bad enough she woke up in a strange new world, but on top of that, her magic and abilities were gone. It's not as if one forgets such things; especially as old and as trained as Fran may be. It's troubling to feel so disconnected, though it's not the first time. She lost a deep connection when she left her people in favor of a free life, but now her connection to natural things and even her very senses have been dulled further.
Having chosen the path of the archer, Fran picks up a bow and makes for the practice yard where she can be found letting an arrow fly at a distant target. This reminds her of her childhood, or her days practicing with her sisters. Only now, her keen eyes are not as sharp as they were back in Ivalice. The arrow is released and flies straight, but lands just a little off center. Normally, she wouldn't have to think much to hit her target. Now, she'll have to pay more attention.]
Is this how it is for a hume? It will take some practice.
Wildcard!
[Set as you'd like.]
C
"Beautiful."
He lets that hang in the air for a second before he clarifies his meaning, lets his gaze drift in the same direction that Fran is looking. "Doesn't matter how many times I see it, I never get tired of this view."
no subject
Even in Ivalice, people took note whenever they saw a viera, since few strayed from their own lands. As a result, Fran was used to the looks. Now, her tall figure and rabbit ears were even more noticeable than even she was accustomed to.
When the man approaches and remarks on the scenery, Fran turns her head from the view to the Jack, which swishes her long white ponytail out behind her like the crisp sail of ship.
"You often make for skies? It is not suited to all." She's seen a few passengers who would clearly rather be on the ground, but he's not one of them. Jack appears entirely at ease in the clouds, as does Fran.
C.
Zelda sat beside Fran, looking over the railing to see if she could put a picture to her words, her mouth slowly dropping as she took in the sight before her. A sea of clouds, every now and again parting to give a glimpse of the world below. Being this high up, looking down upon the world, it was a sensation of freedom that she had never felt before.]
Miss Fran, are you familiar with flying? I cannot help but think by the way you speak that this is not the first time you have looked upon the skies this way.
no subject
As the pretty young woman joins her, Fran's red eyes glance briefly over at Zelda. Was she waiting for the right time to approach? Clearly, she picked Fran's name up somewhere on board. It amused the viera a bit.]
I am. The air is but a second home to a sky pirate.
[It might not be the profession Zelda was expecting.]
no subject
[She once more looks out to the open sky, smiling softly as she imagines herself aboard a vessel more fitting a privateer's lifestyle. The books she had read were obviously romanticized, but it did not halt or impede her imagination in the slightest.]
My name is Zelda, by the by. I hope I'm not imposing or interrupting your journey. If.. If you do not mind my asking, and I do sincerely hope I am not rude in doing so, but.. you are unlike any of the others I have seen so far in my time here. May I ask where you are from?
no subject
Maybe Zelda's notions of piracy were romanticized, but were she to meet Balthier, she'd probably suspect he stepped from the pages of one of those novels. He was good at appearances like that.
When Zelda asks her question, Fran answers with all the patience of one who is used to such inquiries. At least Zelda is polite about it.]
I am not from here, but another place called Ivalice. I do not believe viera are native to this world.
no subject
[While she might not be writing it down, the Princess is doing her best to keep a mental catalog of the information she's provided.]
I have never heard of such a world. I myself come from a land known as Hyrule.
[She brushes a hand to push the hair back from her face, tucking the strands behind her pointed ear.]
This world seems rather diverse with its different clans and races. I cannot recount the number of times some one has asked me if I was an "elf", whatever that means.
no subject
[She wonders if such similarities occur for others. Viera, however, are not among the races she's seen aboard the ships she's sailed so far.]
There are none like you where I come from. No Hyrule exists. No elf, either.
[Though she is not an elf, according to her words, she must resemble one for others to make the comparison.]
D
Which is why he steps up behind Fran, arms folded, and appraises the shot that she made. His eyes are on the arrow -- then shift to the Viera. Not a species he's familiar with, but he comes from a world with many an intelligent race. A tall woman with such ears is something he can adjust to quickly.
He shakes his head.]
I don't know what a "hume" is, but I think it's like that for everyone. We have to start somewhere.
no subject
Hume is the race of man. They dominate the world I come from. My eyes have been dulled by this place.
[Her vision is not as sharp as it was back home for some reason.]
Would you care to try?
[She offers him the bow.]
no subject
[Vax, it happens, is a half-elf. He shrugs his shoulders -- and then tenses at the bow. He could use a bow, of course... but never as well as his sister. And never one this large. He hesitates a moment longer, before he nods.]
Hn. I was never very good with these things.
[He takes the bow anyways, and readies an arrow. Unfortunately, he is now a Dragoon -- not a Ranger. So when he draws back and fires...
...well, it hits the ground next to the target.
Vax sighs.]
no subject
As the arrow flies and hits the ground, the viera tilts her head to the side a little. Hm.]
We have to start somewhere.
[Perhaps the same words will encourage him, too?]
no subject
Maybe so. I'm not exactly Ranger material, though. That's my sister.
[Not that Vex is here, as far as he knows. He looks back at Fran, head tilted, and then offers the bow back.]
I heard the Asterisks shape what weapons we use. I know after they gave me the Dragoon one, I could use a spear. I never bothered before.
no subject
You spear was not known to you before now? That is unusual magick.
[She looked to the bow in her hand, which was a favored weapon, though she was trained in more than just archery.]
I chose one familiar to me.
no subject
[He shakes his head.]
Your idea makes sense. I'll do the same for a second Asterisk. There's comfort in that.
C
Indeed. But I've never felt so free as this. I've only ever dreamed of seeing the world from this vantage point.
[Those times when her usual ship took flight were usually a slight more terrifying and uncontrolled than this.]
no subject
When the woman remarks on the sense of freedom, Fran can't help but smile a little.]
I, too, felt such things the first time I rode an airship. I would oft see them from the ground. It is freeing, but flying your own ship, that is better.
no subject
[She takes another long wiff of the chill air. Hands held out, she stretches a bit to feel the wind against her.]
This is a new experience for me. Our ship is one usually confined to the sea. The few times it's been in the sky it was either falling or quickly on its way to falling.
c
What a familiar sentiment...
no subject
Familiar? How?
[She has the viera a bit curious.]
i am so sorry i missed this
