TEST DRIVE MEME

A. RETRIEVAL

Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you.

The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space.

It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. None of you know how you came to be here or where you are going, and the door to the cockpit is locked as the pilots focus on navigating the treacherous obstacles of the Dream Width. You might as well take this moment to introduce yourself to your fellow travelers.

B. CURTI CENTER

There’s an almost overwhelming aura of excitement in the tower as researchers rush to document this unprecedented number of interdimensional travelers. Over the commotion, the leaders of the Center struggle to explain, ‘Welcome to Vaikuntha. We don’t know why you’ve been brought here, but this is your new home.’

The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, provide maps and pamphlets about the world and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can under the circumstances.

Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new (temporary) homes.

C. UP IN THE SKY

There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home.

You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

D. GUILDS

Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous.

So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe.

E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS

Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it.

Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!

F. SIDEQUESTS

Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays.

It all started when you checked the Quest Board.  All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND)

You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about layabout space-people not earning their keep, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well.

There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for your permanent housing.

H. MOGNET

*Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail!

Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling.

I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER

The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! Is that battle music playing?

You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. There’s no shame from running from enemies that are a higher level than you!

J. WILD CARD

Feeling inspired to create your own prompt? The power is yours!

[There's a sort of quiet, blank staring. Yes, that is in fact, a living skeleton. Yes, said living skeleton just, ran into her. And yes, said living skeleton is in fact treating this incredibly casually. Mythra may frequently get annoyed, but this is one of the few rare times she is genuinely confused. She snaps herself out of it though, and then that blank stare becomes transfixed in anger, as she pushes herself off of the ground.]

"Hey, watch where you're going! What the hell is so distracting that you seriously can't see a person right in front of you?!"

[That's some intent staring! Could it be that this stranger is awestruck by his presence? That must be it! After all, he's a handsome, skeletal specimen. The very definition of cool!

...And then she snaps at him, and his mind immediately jumps to Undyne. So much passion that, where others might find her reaction intimidating, he continues to smile as he gives a sweeping gesture toward their surroundings. Well, mostly the sky.]

The sky, of course! I've always wondered what it was like, but to actually see it up close! And so soon! It's a dream come true!!!

[He pauses.]

But, fear not! I, the Great Papyrus, am a friend to all those in need!

[So even though she's already pushed herself up, he extends a helping hand just in case and eyeballs the ground in case she, too, dropped some important belongings.]
sirenslight: (precious smile)

[personal profile] sirenslight 2018-03-17 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[Never seen the sky? She, wouldn't question that. Other worlds were weird, they had weird things in them. Someone not being able to see the sky probably made sense. Still, the cheer and enthusiasm makes her laugh just a bit. Like Rex, reaching out to help others without even a thought about it.]

"Well, I guess it's nice meeting you then, Papyrus. I'm Mythra."

[She takes his extended hand, her fingrs feeling it. She in fact, begins sizing up all of his bones, looking for some sort of mechanism there. Some sort of logic behind how he is managing to stand. And talk. And move. She sticks her hand through his ribcage even. Her surface examination comes up with nothing.]

"How do all your bones hold themselves together like that?"

[Might as well ask, since he's right here.]
einspine: (big grin)

[personal profile] einspine 2018-03-18 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh. That's new. Especially since his labcoat and battle body cover his ribs, but, well, she must just be curious! Maybe she's not used to skeletons? While he blinks a few times and stares a little, he's back to his smiling self before long. After all, interest is a good thing! And he can understand the surprise in seeing a new and unusual being. Humans were strange to him at first, too!

Then Frisk happened.]

Oh! Well, they just sort of... do. It's a skeleton thing!

[He says this without hesitation, like it's perfectly normal and there's nothing strange about this.]

Besides, if my bones were in pieces, I'd have a hard time crafting perilous puzzles. Or cooking succulent spaghetti! Or performing any number of scientific feats.

"Uh... huh..."

[She has to pull her hand out from the admittedly, incredibly awkward angle that kind of hurts for her arm to be at she's using to feel around in there. Yep, that's one very empty chest cavity. She begins massaging her upper arm a little. Least she knows she's not getting any answers. So she'll just, roll with it.]

"But you're a scientist. Gotchya. What kind of stuff do you science up then?"

[Science up is not the correct term, she realizes this. She also doesn't care. Her Father was a scientist, but he didn't exactly program every piece of his knowledge into her. Even if that would have been convenient.]
einspine: (convenient sciency button)

[personal profile] einspine 2018-03-18 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[He watches the arm rubbing, his smile slightly smaller than before. Is this human going to be okay? He considers asking, but then the topic of sicence comes up and...

Oh boy. Where does he begin?!]

Oh, all kinds of things! We've dabbled in biology, technology, a bit of puzzle-ology. Botany, SOUL studies... And sometimes a combo of any one of these diverse fields! I, of course, am most partial to using science to craft ingeneous puzzles, designed to ensnare the mind and body in thrilling challenges! But improving the lives of my fellow monsters is just as important, as is solving the mysteries of time and space!
sirenslight: (Focus)

[personal profile] sirenslight 2018-03-18 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"Space and time, huh? My Father might've be able to help with that, if... he was still around."

[Klaus had created another world entirely after all. Mythra didn't know how he'd done it, well, besides that it had taken the Conduit to do it but she wasn't much of a scientist. Even if he did explain it, it would all come off as rambling technobabble to her. But, while she didn't have much of in interest in puzzles, they actually just frustrated her, there was something else in there that did catch her attention.]

"But, what exactly is Soul studies?"

[Sounded like weird pseudo-science to her.]
einspine: (confident)

[personal profile] einspine 2018-03-20 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh dear. Did something happen to him? Or is he just... not here?

[Hopefully the latter! That certainly sounds better than the former. Yes, that must be it. Probably. Maybe?

Well, regardless, that's interesting! But he can ask more on that later, as she did just ask about his field of work.]

Anyway, SOUL studies are just that! Studies of the SOUL. My partner and I had sought to unravel the mysteries of the human SOUL so that we could apply its power to the SOULs of monsters and find a peaceful way of breaking the barrier!

[Which... didn't end well. At all. In fact, it was rather terrifying. And he was just fifteen at the time. Wowie.]
sirenslight: (mkay)

[personal profile] sirenslight 2018-03-20 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
“He, no, nothing horrible happened to him.”

[The Architect had went peacefully rather than being butchered by Malos, and he had in fact seemed as if it was a good outcome for him. He was t peace with death, and Mythra ultimately, just had to accept that. She still didn’t particularly feeling like talking about it though, given how freshly it weighed on her mind.

But as for his definition, Mythra thought she got the general gist. Souls were a physical force in the Skeleton’s world that was being studied to, break some sort of barrier. A magical one, perhaps? Soul power magic stuff, basically.]

“So, what do souls even, have in them to break a barrier? Some sort of weird property?”

[Because that was the part that wasn’t really lining up in all of this.{
einspine: (sad)

[personal profile] einspine 2018-03-22 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, human SOULs are extremely powerful! So powerful that they can persist even after death, thanks to their determination.

[This is a scientific fact, courtesy of himself and Undyne! True revolutionaries in the art of soul science!]

As for how... well, the barrier was constructed with a powerful magic equal to that of seven human SOULs. So, to break it, you need an equal power! Otherwise, anyone who comes through gets trapped, just like the rest of us. How tragic!
sirenslight: (reflection)

[personal profile] sirenslight 2018-03-23 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I dunno. I've killed some humans, and none of them had souls that I could see persist. Probably just a quirk of your world, really."

[Mythra could you maybe not?]

"Still, being trapped like that, must've been pretty rough."
einspine: (nervous)

[personal profile] einspine 2018-03-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps! I suppose parallel worlds could operate on their own internal logic. I'd have to do more investigating to know for sure...

[But this is a very good point. Very, very good...]

Oh! It wasn't the worst thing in the world. We got by, although I certainly won't look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth. This level of freedom is just so exhilarating!
