A. RETRIEVAL

Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you.

The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space.

It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. None of you know how you came to be here or where you are going, and the door to the cockpit is locked as the pilots focus on navigating the treacherous obstacles of the Dream Width. You might as well take this moment to introduce yourself to your fellow travelers.

B. CURTI CENTER

There’s an almost overwhelming aura of excitement in the tower as researchers rush to document this unprecedented number of interdimensional travelers. Over the commotion, the leaders of the Center struggle to explain, ‘Welcome to Vaikuntha. We don’t know why you’ve been brought here, but this is your new home.’

The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, provide maps and pamphlets about the world and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can under the circumstances.

Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new (temporary) homes.

C. UP IN THE SKY

There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home.

You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

D. GUILDS

Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous.

So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe.

E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS

Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it.

Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!

F. SIDEQUESTS

Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays.

It all started when you checked the Quest Board. All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND)

You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about layabout space-people not earning their keep, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well.

There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for your permanent housing.

H. MOGNET

*Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail!

Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling.

I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER

The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! ~~Is that battle music playing?~~

You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. There’s no shame from running from enemies that are a higher level than you!

"To some extent. Never really worn it, have definitely seen some of it. Mostly, I'm just familiar with structural analysis."

[And that, in Mythra's mind, made her very qualified to understand how armor worked. Upper arm pieces get tossed next.]

"You don't really need armor when you just heal instantly from everything. Though.... that doesn't seem to be the case here. Maybe I should look into it."

You heal instantly. From everything.

[It's not that Vax doesn't believe her -- he's seen some crazy things in his adventuring days -- but it immediately shifts his opinion to a question. Who, or what, is she?

Then, he considers, even as he starts sliding on the next pieces. (He caught those, too.)]

We lost whatever things we could do before. At least, some of it. You might want to consider some protection.

"There's a bit more to it than that, I couldn't do it for a while, and in fact I had just gotten it back before I got whisked away in. I, won't bore you with the details."

[She picks up the shoulders, staring for a while. Why are these so spiky? Who designed these? Why? She still hands them over though.]

"But I'll consider it."

Well, it sounds useful! Unless I was on your bad side. Then it sounds awful.

[He takes the shoulders, turning them over. Despite his words, his tone sounds bemused -- and he has a disbelieving smile on his face, like it's saying "are you serious?"]

I wonder if the armorsmith was drunk when he did these.

[He starts buckling the pauldrons on anyways.]

"If you were on my bad side, that'd be the least of your problems."

[Though her threats ring fairly hollow. She looks over all of the armor again, and yeah it all looks pretty, hard to maneuver in, to say the least. She still tosses him the vambraces anyways]

"He probably was. Then again, people's fashion sense in this world is, questionable. Least your taste isn't as terrible."

Is that so?

[He shrugs, then he clasps the vambraces on. He has to move his hands a little -- and finds they have a part that can lock into place after the gauntlets at one. Then, he looks up at Myphra.

He shrugs his shoulders.]

I don't like gaudy. I suppose I'll get used to it, though.

[He looks her outfit over.] ...So you've tried one of these Asterisks for yourself, then?

"...I cant't say I don't like gaudy, all things considered, but I'm not really the biggest fan of it."

[She looks down for a second, before picking up the ridiculous dragon helmet. She just holds it in her hands, looking over the thing.]

"Yep. Swordmaster. Because, let's just say I have a lot of experience with swords. I miss my own though."

It has to be the right kind of gaudy. I had a friend where someone could call him gaudy -- if they're an idiot -- but it had its charm. Of course...

[He looks over the helmet. It has some style, he has to admit. Even if he'd like it to be maybe 50% less.]

Experience with swords? I've used a few. I preferred daggers, myself.

"Right. But hey, just looking at it here... This might not look so bad on you."

[She walks over to him and slides the helmet onto his her herself.]

"But yeah, I've got zero problem with daggers, they're just not my personal expertise."

I'll admit... [He unsheathes one of his daggers, then turns it. It's polished; reflective. He can see his face in it, now behind a helm. The dragon's head portion can slide down, like a visor.

He leaves it up.] ...it has a style, all put together.

[Then Vax looks up. He raises an eyebrow.] You had a specific sword, then? ...It didn't talk, did it?

"Nope. It was just this huge thing with a blade formed of light. The Sword of the Aegis. Aka, me."

[She beams with a bit of pride for a second, before she slides down the visor over his face, just to see how it looks.]

"And I guess it does have a certain appeal."

Wait, you were the sword? Or more like that's what people called you? Because it sounds impressive.

[He frowns a little when she slides the visor down.]

Not as hard as I thought to see. Are you having fun with this?

[He feels a little like they're playing dress-up. ~~They totally are.~~]

"Yes and no. That's... a bit of a complicated question. The short of it is, I am the Aegis, the Sword is, basically just tied to my body. So I am the Sword, but I'm also, not. To explain it anymore would, probably be lost on you."

[As in "Mythra ain't in the mood to loredump you Vax, sorry."]

"And yes, I definitely am."

[She smirks a little, backing off from him a bit.]

Well. I'm inclined to agree. That's really fucking complicated.

I had a friend who had a talking sword, once. It wasn't complicated. It was just an evil bullshit spirit that drank blood.

[Her set-up sounds nice. He cracks a smile, then reaches up, and adjusts the visor.]

I could tell. I think I could get used to this, though.

“So like, a particularly vicious flesh eater. Fun.”

[Not even the blades of storms were that bad.]

“Well, you better be able to, given that you’ll be wearing this for who knows how long.”

"Fun" is one word for it.

[Grog kind of did have fun with it, but Vax thinks Grog is a bit of psychopath sometimes.

Then his expression screws up.]

As long as I'm Dragoon-ing, I suppose. I hope we can change outfits. I don't want to look like a spiky asshole twenty-four seven.

"If you had to put it on in the first place, it only makes sense that you can take it off. Or else why would you even have to do that in the first place?"

[She just gives him a bit of a disappointed glance as her hand comes to rest on her hip.]

Of course I can take it off! I just meant--

Sometimes, I'd want to go out wearing something nice. A stylish robe. Or a good cloak. Armor doesn't go with cloaks.

[Vax has a thing about fashion. Goth fasion.]

"Oh, totally. But robes went out of fashion like, 500 years ago."

[That was the last time she had ever seen anyone wear one. Ridiculous longcoats were what was in.]

Wh--no they didn't!

Or maybe I'm five hundred years ago.

[He kind of is.]

"Could be possible. There's definitely weirder things than people from different time periods here."

[Like, half of everything else pretty much.]

I'm not five hundred years old. Except maybe my fashion sense, according to you.

[He sighs.]

I suppose our circumstances are the great equalizer of fashion disasters.
