Test Drive Meme IV

A. RETRIEVAL

Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you.

The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space.

It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. The other newly-awakened people have no idea how they came to be here, but now's a good time as ever to introduce yourself to the others on the airship and glean what information you can.

B. CURTI CENTER

The researchers at the Curti Center are not quite so unprepared as last time, but it is still obvious that they are struggling to understand the sudden influx of interdimensional travelers from the Dream Width. "Please step into the lobby for a quick survey. Perhaps there is some common thread we haven't discovered yet..."

The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, write down all proffered information they can about the arrivals' homeworlds, provide maps and pamphlets about Vaikuntha and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can, considering they are still housing the previous arrivals here on the island.

Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new (temporary) homes.

C. UP IN THE SKY

There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home.

You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

D. GUILDS

Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous.

So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe.

E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS

Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it.

Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!

F. SIDEQUESTS

Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays.

It all started when you checked the Quest Board. All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND)

You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about layabout space-people not earning their keep, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well.

There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for your permanent housing.

H. MOGNET

*Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail!

Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling.

I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER

The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! ~~Is that battle music playing?~~

You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. There’s no shame from running from enemies that are a higher level than you!

The weather has turned cooler, and with the arrival of autumn comes fall-themed treats, fall fashion, and of course, the beginning of the spookiest holiday season. Even though summer is still newly ended, it is not uncommon to already see people embracing the season in full force. Pumpkins and ghost-moogle decorations begin to appear on porches and in windows, stores offer a pumpkin version of everything, and there is so much orange.

It is all good fun in the day time, but there does seem to be a rise of monstrous activity after the sun sets...

C. Up in the Sky:
Libertus would have liked this, Nyx thought to himself. He was grinning, leaning on the edge of the ship's railing and looking across at the expanse of broadening horizon. The airship seemed like old technology, and maybe not the safest, but Nyx had ever been one to defy the odds willfully. Besides, the view really couldn't be beat. The thrum of the airship, the noise of other excited passengers, the wind against his face...

It was almost enough to forget that he wasn't on Eos, or Thisavrou, or anywhere else he might call home. He was an immigrant and starting somewhere new wasn't new to him. That didn't mean it got any easier. Things had really just been getting interesting on the strange planets of Thisavrou, and good for him. He'd had a fun job, a cool boss, a new love interest, and a cool apartment. Man, he missed every single of those things.

But part of being a role model, or a hero as he used to joke, was being able to carry on despite your hardships. Nyx could still appreciate a great view and relaxing airship ride, and he was determined to do so. "Is this the top speed?" he asked whomever was closest to him. "Seems a bit slow."

H. Mognet - Video:
[Nyx had gotten used to communicating like this at Thisavrou, and so adjusting to the tablet is no more difficult than understanding the simple menu layouts. He addresses anyone in particular.]

[Which is true but precise, given he has a much more specific request in mind. Nyx is sitting on some cement steps, outside of a market store. The sounds of passersby can be heard in the immediate background of his video.]

Which swords you recommend, actually. I have my own but I'm wondering if there's a reason to choose something like a rapier instead. Any suggestions?

[ Sora is trekking along quite nicely in his new outfit. He’s telling everyone that will stop and listen to him, which only a few have thus far, but that’s okay! He’s not one to be easily discouraged. In fact, he’s become the smarter prowler. Get them when they’re already down! That was his new plan and he sure was lucky because he spied a man already sitting on the ground waiting and ready for his pitch!

He rushes over to the other, a wobbling thick costume adorns his short frame. He doesn’t pay too much attention (sure hope this guy wasn’t doing anything important on his mognet) because here he is and here he goes! ]

Hiii! I’m Sora the Chocoboy! I’m here to tell you, special prices are so special now for renting your chocobo ride today! Hurry, follow me! If you can catch me, you’ll get a special ten percent off your rental!

[Nyx has barely finished his request for help when a bouncing little chocoboy comes up to greet him. It can be considered accosting, or patronizing, but Nyx sees it as neither. This is a hilarious gift. He laughs, with good-nature and not meanly. This is just ridiculous and... well, cute. Nyx is a sucker for the kid sister or kid brother types.]

You look pretty fast, this looks like a scam to me.

[He's joking. Sure he can't exactly Warp around but he's still fast enough to catch a kid. Right?? Yeah, he thinks so.]

[ ~~Did someone say sidequest, what is this a FF game?~~ Sora laughs and waves his arms. The outfit looks a bit too big for him and he may not necessarily be too fast not to be caught but so far no one’s yet dare try! So he’s feeling a bit confident. Sora gives his feet a quick stomping, then gets in position as if he’s about ready to jump. ]

Nope! But Chocobos are a fast thing too! They compete in races even!

[Chocobo rentals would be a fast way to get around, and he's not exactly swimming in money. Ten-percent off would be nice. Nyx knows these aren't the reasons he's slowly pushing himself up to stand, though.

He genuinely wants to chase the cute kid, it sounds fun, something which he hasn't had much of in the recent past.]

Alright. You've got a deal. I'll even give you a head start.

[ Oh, Sora is going to lose this race. Hands down. But he was up for the challenge. So, Sora rushes forward in his oversized costume. He runs with a waddle, keeping the chocobo styled shoes on his feet, and his hands grip the overcoat which has built in wing styled sleeves. His hat bounces up and down from his vision, giving him range of sight every third or fourth step. He is either going to be caught or he is going to go down out of his own accord. ]

"I do not think passenger ships really do top speed." Blandly. "You may need to seek out a private vessel to test the limits."

Regis was going around to rearrange his asterisks, really, but yes, here he was, on the very same airship.

His time away from Eos hadn't cured him of the unconscious reaction to his liege's voice. There was the automatic need to bend knee to the man at his side, and it was therefore only with the most concerted effort that he managed not to do so. Nyx had heard that the King was here, but had yet to see him in person. Somehow in his (childish) excitement to get onto the airship he hadn't noticed the older man.

Nyx turned his head and sure enough, there was the familiar gray beard and hair, the same intensity to the lines in his face. "Majesty," he said in greeting, uncertain what their role was here to one another. The last time they had seen one another hadn't been the best of circumstances either.

What they were to each other was... probably yet to be determined. And, well. Regis still was prone to sitting still for long periods of time - very easy to overlook until he drew attention to himself.

"Nyx Ulric." There was nothing wrong with excitement. Nor anything wrong with memories that were complicated. "Did you have any difficulties in the Dream Width upon arrival?"

Some got away easier than others. Other than perhaps Ardyn, and maybe Glauca, Regis rather wished more people would not run into seriously troubling memories.

Yes, he'd had difficulties. There were plenty of people who'd had harder lives than himself and in many respects he could count himself as rather lucky. Even still, there were hardships in everyone's lives and he was no different. His sister, his mother, his death, they haunted him. Nyx had his moments of quiet melancholy but they were nearly always reserved for when he was alone and definitely not in front of his (former?) liege.

He smirked subtly, giving a playful raise of his eyebrows. "It was all rainbows and sunshine, Majesty."

Nyx looked out over the horizon. The landscape below was becoming smaller, more distant, more surreal. Maybe they were going faster than he'd realized. He glanced to his side. "If you're here, does that mean others from Insomnia are too?"

ooc: I love it so, too!

Regis. Gave a dry hum that was as close as he would get to a snort. "I have woken up in the Dream Width twice. I rather question that statement, though I suppose it is possible."

But it was all right.

Then he nodded slightly. "Noctis and his retinue are here, as are Clarus and Cor, as well as Lunafreya's brother, Ravus. Others have been here but are no longer." Including Nyx himself, but that might just be a smidgen too much right off the bat. Instead, Regis gave a slightly wry smile.

"Until but weeks ago, I was here but aged twenty. I rather suspect that was both confusing and slightly entertaining for all." And upsetting for some, but at least that was done with.

"Any faster, and the passengers will be asking for black bags." To throw up in. Not everyone can handle fast speeds, especially when it came to flying.

Ignis? He has enough experience with Noctis driving him around in Regalia- flying or no. After the initial feeling of mortification, he has grown used to it and his feet had stopped pressing into the back of the driver's seat. It still kind of makes his hair stand on edge though, he won't deny that.

"If you are interested in faster ships, perhaps you should consider saving up for one," Ignis says, flipping through the papers.
