A. RETRIEVAL

Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you.

The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge, and some helpful Heroes of Light retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space.

It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals and your rescuers who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. The other newly-awakened people have no idea how they came to be here, but now's a good time as ever to introduce yourself to the others on the airship and glean what information you can. The experienced outworlders who helped pull you from your memories may be able to get you caught up to speed.

B. CURTI CENTER

The researchers at the Curti Center are pretty used to this right now, though there's still no good explanation for the influx of interdimensional travelers from the Dream Width since earlier this year. "Please step into the lobby for a quick survey. We have just a few routine questions, it's invaluable to our research so we do ask you indulge us..."

The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, write down all proffered information they can about the arrivals' homeworlds, provide maps and pamphlets about Vaikuntha and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can, considering they have offered to permanently house all of the outworlders here.

Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new homes.

C. UP IN THE SKY

There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home.

You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

D. GUILDS

Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous.

So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe.

E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS

Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it.

Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!

F. SIDEQUESTS

Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays.

It all started when you checked the Quest Board.  All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND)

You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about productive members of society and helping support the local economy, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well.

There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for housing elsewhere in the world.

H. MOGNET

*Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail!

Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling.

I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER

The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! Is that battle music playing?

You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. There’s no shame from running from enemies that are a higher level than you. And they say, those that party up will live to party on!

J. LOVE IS IN THE AIR

All the mistletoe would have come in handy here...

As January gives way to February, stores and streets are decked in red, pink, and white. Posters line the Curti Center walls advertising Speed Dating events and offer to send flowers with anonymous or signed letters to outworlders and Curti Center employees - though there is some suspicion that a handful of received were never requested by the sender. Who cares! Some romances need an extra push!

For the less adventurous types, the love-o-meters stationed at just about every hallway can predict your romantic (and platonic, if you so wish) future with just 100 gil, or even measure how good a potential match between two people will be. Is there any scientific backing to their calculations? That's not important.

Misaki Okusawa | BanG Dream!

[personal profile] idontcarebear 2019-03-01 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
retrieval
Disoriented is selling it too thin. Misaki has been thrown a lot of curveballs, but this is really something else. Actually, she isn't really convinced this is real at first. It could be one of the Suits' elaborate schemes to fulfill one of Kokoro's countless offhand whims -- although they usually give her a heads up... And she doesn't even have her costume here. No, after a few prolonged and bewildered moments, this seems unsettlingly real to her.

Oh, god. What does she do now? It's weird, usually the last thing she wants in a stressful situation is to deal with her weird bandmates, but at least then she'd have a situation to take care of. She'd have some kind of direction. Without them, she feels...weirdly paralyzed. This is a lot.

let's be adventurers
Whosever idea this was, it was almost definitely not Misaki's. The last thing she wants to be doing while stranded in another world is exploring lands that are almost definitely dangerous. No, she'd like to be sitting somewhere quiet where she can get her bearings and figure out where to go from here. Maybe a nap is also in order. This is already very tiring. And yet, here she is, out and adventuring about. She does not look like she is having a great time.

get a job
Money. That's the first thing she has to worry about, she decides. No money means no food, no shelter, so before long Misaki is scrolling through the job listings on her iMog slate with a frown and a little furrow in her brow. A few part-time gigs can't possibly be any harder than what she's been doing for the last...while. Some of them are even refreshingly mundane.

"A coffee shop wouldn't be so bad," she mutters to herself, thinking aloud. "Not that I've ever worked in food service, but if Kanon-san can do it...oh, hey. The item shop needs help. That sounds like a pretty uneventful job."

"Um, excuse me?"

Misaki's attention is drawn by a silver-haired, pointy-eared woman in black armour, a tattered cape, and a sword glowing with dark energy in her hand. It might look intimidating if not for the friendly smile on her face. "You look a little lost, friend. Can I offer my assistance?"

The pointy ears are weird, but comparatively speaking, not that weird. And this girl is friendly and, more importantly, seems sensible. Misaki like sensible.

"Um...hah, yeah, lost is a word for it." Misaki coughs, her smile somewhat harried. "My friend insisted we do some exploring, and I couldn't really say no...well, it's impossible to say no to someone if they're not listening in the first place. But she went haring off someplace, she's probably doing backflips off a mountain somewhere...I couldn't catch up to her."

Misaki does, in fact, look a little out of breath. She gives Corrin a polite, almost sheepish smile. "So, um, yeah, actually -- if you know your way around here, I could use some help."

[personal profile] bladeofconquest 2019-03-05 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Her partner running off and leaving her...that's not good. The monsters in this area aren't exactly tough, but they're still dangerous in packs, especially if you're new and still relatively inexperienced in their asterisks. But Corrin merely nods. "Absolutely. I do a lot of monster-hunting in this area, so I know it fairly well." She hefts her sword. "I'm Corrin; it's nice to meet you, miss."

She looks around, scanning the area. "We should try to find your friend first." She thinks. "She could get hurt running off on her own." Then she looks back at Misaki. "Then if you have any other business out here, I can help with that too if you like. Sound good?"

[personal profile] idontcarebear 2019-03-05 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
She holds up her hands, looking a little self-conscious. "Ah -- Misaki Okusawa, and just Misaki is fine. It's nice to meet you too, Corrin."

Yes, Corrin definitely seems sensible. Thank god.

Misaki lets out a resigned sort of laugh. "I don't think we really have to worry about her getting hurt...I'm pretty sure that girl's indestructible." Then again, those black-suited bodyguards weren't around to work their inexplicable magic. Misaki speaks a little more quickly. "But we should probably find her before she wreaks too much havoc. I really appreciate it. I hope it doesn't wind up being too much trouble for you."
bladeofconquest: (Friendly)

[personal profile] bladeofconquest 2019-03-05 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Misaki. Good to meet you." Corrin gives her a pleasant smile. "Don't worry about it; I like helping people when I can. Now, which way did she run off?"

[personal profile] idontcarebear 2019-03-06 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
There's no shortage of generous, helpful people around Misaki -- sometimes to a fault.

"What are your feelings on smiles?" she says, a sort of ironic laugh in her voice. But she straightens up, her face all business as she peers out at the horizon. "Honestly, she took off so fast when I wasn't looking that I'm not totally sure...I'm pretty sure I saw some clouds of dust over by those mountains there." She pauses, remembering just how dangerous everything here is, and cringes. "Um...how bad is it for someone to be out there alone?"

[personal profile] bladeofconquest 2019-03-06 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Smiles? Well, er, I like them just fine. The more smiles the better, I say." Corrin replies, a little confused as to the question. She then looks in the direction Misaki points. "Your friend certainly seems gung-ho, I'll give her that." She says. "If she's got her asterisks equipped and knows how to use them, it shouldn't be too bad. Nothing out this way is especially difficult." If you know what you're doing, at least. "But let's not tempt fate, shall we? Come on." She takes off at a light jog in the direction indicated.

"What's your friend's name?" She asks as they go.

Misaki thinks for a moment about all of the complicated steps involved in what Corrin just described, and immediately shakes her head.

"Yeah, there's no way she did all that. She's kind of, uh...a make it up as you go along sort of person."

Misaki doesn't look that athletic at a glance, but between tennis and...the long, long hours in a mascot costume, she can keep up at a steady pace.

"Kokoro. She and I came here together -- from the same world, I mean."

Still feels super weird saying that. All of this is super weird.
bladeofconquest: (yo check out my cravat)

[personal profile] bladeofconquest 2019-03-06 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
Corrin frowns.

Her pace quickens.

"Don't worry." She manages between breaths as they run. "You'd be *huff* amazed how quickly *huff* you get used to all of it. I've only *huff* been here six months *huff* myself."

She glances back over her shoulder to make sure Misaki is still keeping pace. "Kokoro, got it. What *huff* asterisks are you *huff* using, Misaki?" Ever the soldier, Corrin is assessing the situation and their strengths and weaknesses.
idontcarebear: (pic#12267550)

[personal profile] idontcarebear 2019-03-06 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, uh..."

Misaki suddenly feels profoundly foolish, hunching her shoulders slightly as she picks up the pace.

"None, actually...like I said, I kind of got dragged out here against my will. I barely got a grasp on what was going on before Kokoro was already taking off." Misaki sounds like a thoroughly exasperated babysitter. "I've long since learned that once Kokoro gets going, she can't be stopped, so I might as well go along with it."
bladeofconquest: (Surprised)

[personal profile] bladeofconquest 2019-03-06 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
...Okay. That certainly made things more interesting.

"All right then, this is what we're going to do." Corrin decides as she runs. "When we find Kokoro, if she's in trouble, I'll leap in and get the attention of whatever beast it is, and while I'm doing that, you get Kokoro and you get out of here; I'll cover your escape. Get back to town, and wait for me. There's a tea-house on the main street, head there. I shouldn't be too far behind you in any case. If Kokoro's hurt, we'll get her injuries looked at and then we'll sort out asterisks for the both of you. You're going to need them regardless." She looks back over her shoulder at Misaki; the girl is doing an admirable job keeping pace with her. "Got it?"

At least if Kokoro isn't in trouble Corrin can guide them back herself, but she's definitely making sure the two of them are suitably prepared regardless before they part ways. Corrin makes a mental note to send a message to her housemate; she might be a bit longer getting home than she initially anticipated.

"If anyone's in trouble, I doubt it'll be Kokoro." Misaki sounds almost embarrassed, and definitely weary. "Besides which, you can't really count on her listening to anything anyone says. She's kind of..." Difficult? Unruly? Absolutely batshit insane?

"Let's just say I know how to speak Kokoro," Misaki finally concludes, a little lamely, but there is a note of urgency in her voice. "As much as anyone can, anyway...listen -- you take care of any, um, fighting, but let me handle the talking. She can go off the rails pretty easily."
