Test Drive Meme II

A. RETRIEVAL

Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you.

The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space.

It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. The other newly-awakened people have no idea how they came to be here, but now's a good time as ever to introduce yourself to the others on the airship and glean what information you can.

B. CURTI CENTER

The researchers at the Curti Center are not quite so unprepared as last time, but it is still obvious that they are struggling to understand the sudden influx of interdimensional travelers from the Dream Width. "Please step into the lobby for a quick survey. Perhaps there is some common thread we haven't discovered yet..."

The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, write down all proffered information they can about the arrivals' homeworlds, provide maps and pamphlets about Vaikuntha and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can, considering they are still housing the previous arrivals here on the island.

Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new (temporary) homes.

C. UP IN THE SKY

There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home.

You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

D. GUILDS

Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous.

So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe.

E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS

Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it.

Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!

F. SIDEQUESTS

Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays.

It all started when you checked the Quest Board.  All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND)

You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about layabout space-people not earning their keep, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well.

There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for your permanent housing.

H. MOGNET

*Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail!

Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling.

I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER

The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! Is that battle music playing?

You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. There’s no shame from running from enemies that are a higher level than you!

J. CHOCOBO MADNESS

You look at the giant chicken, and the giant chicken looks back at you. Could this be the beginning of a beautiful relationship?

The kind folks at the Chocobo Farm have provided you with the tools of the chocobo-catching trade: greens, a bridle, and more advice than you can remember. Time to go find your new steed.

Or perhaps you have already captured a chocobo, and your friend has captured a chocobo, and now you'd like to bring some chicks into the equation. Chocobo breeding may be the minigame for you!

K. WILD CARD

Feeling inspired to create your own prompt? The power is yours!

Regis Lucis Caelum | FFXV | Age 20

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-17 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
Up in the Sky

With airships being usually the domain of Nifleheim, Regis hadn't had much of a chance to see the sights from up high, unless he'd been warping.

So here he was, tall and slim and fit youth of twenty, looking out over the lands speeding fast beneath them.

    "So beautiful."

Guilds - Stavemaster

They may all have come in without their equipment or special abilities, but skills acquired the long way? Those seemed to have stayed. And Clarus had trained him well with many weapons.

So here Regis was, after the initial orientation. He'd warned them that he wasn't a beginner, but they'd ignored him. It wasn't his fault that the instructor they'd given them was down on the mat for the third time in a row. Regis was having fun, on the other hand.

    "Up for another round? Anyone?"

Jobs - Mognet deliveries

On the one hand, moogle costumes were soft and floofy and cute and unthreatening.

On the other hand, they were not usually worn by people fully six feet in height and with reasonably broad shoulders.

So the overall effect may have been a little more intimidating than intended.

Still, Regis tried his best as he jogged after the person he was sure was the recipient.

"Excuse me! You have a package..."

Wildcard.

    Go wild.

Mognet Delivery!

[personal profile] alborada 2018-05-17 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
'Intimidating' would not be the word that came to mind when Sylvarie turned around, heeding the voice calling after her. Nonetheless she’s visibly taken aback, because of the sight before her. Confusion was probably the best way to describe her first impression, as she wasn’t used to seeing such... burly Mognet employees.

Coughing awkwardly, the girl stood straight and composed herself even as her mind raced with possibilities.

“I’m sorry, I wasn’t expecting anything. Sir...?”
regisrex: (Y: Wink)

HA

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-17 02:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Regis made sure to stay a respectful step back, holding out the package with one hand. The other came up to the employee name tag on his chest.

"Simply Reggie. Just a courier!"

He tilted his head just a little bit.

"You weren't expecting a delivery?"
alborada: (♭ɪ ᴄʀɪᴇᴅ)

[personal profile] alborada 2018-05-17 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Nodding, Sylvarie still finds herself briefly puzzled when he does introduce himself. What an odd name for a man of this stature. “Sir Reggie, then.”

The formalities are definitely a habit in the way she hardly thinks anything of it as she accepts the package, looking curious for just a moment—

And then it turns into a scowl. Of course she should have expected it to be this, and she nearly shoved the package back at Regis. Except that would be undeniably rude.

“I’m sorry, could you wait a few moments? I’ll open it now.”
regisrex: (Y: Wink)

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-18 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)
And she gets a brief, light laugh in return, as the 'moogle' makes a fluffy bow. "Why, thank you, My Lady."

No, he's just a prince in a different world, no need for titles, but pointing that out while he's fully dressed up sounds just a little absurd.

His mirth fades a little at her reaction, and he gives a shorter bow, taking a step back and turning half away to give her privacy.

"Of course. Let me know what you need of me when you are ready."

Time to send Regis on a Fetch Quest

[personal profile] alborada 2018-05-23 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Sylvarie answers with a simple nod, working on getting that scowl under control. However, the person who sent the package just had to make it difficult with the letter enclosed within. If she seemed displeased before, now she was downright incredulous.

"'The curves of a Ultros?' How would he even—?" Sighing audibly, she crumples the letter and takes a look inside the box. Well, at least the scarf within seemed to be a nice blue colour.

"Are you in need of a scarf, Sir Reggie?"
regisrex: (Y: Regis yes)

H A fair enough

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-31 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"A scarf"? Regis is a very polite person and has not looked into her package. In fact, it's pretty much a requirement for the job.

"Does it go with this?" He reaches up to poing the pom at the end of the antenna over his head.

But even though his voice is light, he is paying attention.

Up in the Sky

With her newfound duties send her to other places beyond the Curtis Center, using the airships was becoming a necessary means of travel to get to one place to the next. She recalled the first time overlooking the beautiful terrain of Vaikuntha on her arrival. Strange that she was beginning to grow used to it, even if the scenery below was still breathtaking to look upon.

She made it a habit to always take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the lands despite seeing it so often now. Yet hearing the words murmured by the other adjacent from her caused her to look over in surprise. How could she not respond? Even if it was mostly said to himself.

"It is, isn't it?" She states as a smile slowly bloomed on her lips. "Is it your first time seeing it?"
regisrex: (Y: Leisure)

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-18 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Regis turned to the young woman next to him easily, a smile on his own lips. The way she carried herself was familiar enough that he did not need to ask whether she was nobility; her expression, on the other hand, was sweetly gentle, and that was also a wonderful thing.

"In this world, very much the first, yes. How about yourself?"

Easy enough topic of conversation, no matter what.
euphemia: (► 038)

[personal profile] euphemia 2018-05-19 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
"No, unfortunately." Unfortunate was a poor word choice to use, but also mildly accurate. Did anyone plan to be here? "I've been here for a few weeks now. It still never gets old." Even if it was still somewhat foreign, she couldn't deny that it was still a breathtaking scene to look upon.

Yet now her attention shifts entirely to the younger gentleman. "I take it you're new then? Freshly arrived at the Curti Center?"
regisrex: (Y: Smile)

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-22 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Regis's eyebrow does quirk a little up at the immediate answer, but he hums lightly with the rest of it.

"Rather new, yes. A lot of things to adjust to, even while there are ones that just seem so familiar." It's almost frustrating, but his smile doesn't quite waver. He can take it.

Until he finds how to go home.

"A few people have said something similar. About how there are a few familiar things here, although I have yet to see anything remotely similar myself." But it was a comment that has stayed with her even now. For whatever reason, there were glaring similarities noted by others that paralleled their own world. For a moment, she wondered if this person, in particular, might be related to one of the ones who said as much.

"Ah, I apologize. I didn't bother to introduce myself!" she answered, then turned fully to acknowledge him with a full smile. "I'm Euphy."
regisrex: (Y: Dashing)

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-23 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's... interesting. I would much like to hear what your world is like, then. And it's a pleasure to meet you, Euphie. I'm Regis, though I respond quite well to 'Reggie.'"

Not even remotely a lie, that.

Up in the Sky

[personal profile] warpstriking 2018-05-20 09:24 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah. You could say that," came a somewhat amused voice from behind Regis, unable to really focus on his studies with the wind in his face and the sight of the horizon on either side. He'd almost dozed off thanks to the warmth of the sun on his face until he heard the voice and briefly snapped out of it.

He's almost tempted to fall back into that sleepiness, leaning against the wall like he is. Though something about this guy...
regisrex: (Y: Books)

SO HIGH (Also let's have them not having it figured out yet...)

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-22 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're not a fan?" Regis's tone was easy and light, amused but not judging. There were people whose tastes ran to anything, and there was naught wrong with it.

"I do hope it's not a matter of trouble with heights or something like that." Air travel was fast, so sometimes necessary, but...
warpstriking: (smirk ☈ you always knew)

(sounds like a plan to me!)

[personal profile] warpstriking 2018-05-28 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, nah. Would be a sad day if someone training for a pilot license was terrified of heights." He shrugs. After all, it's not the height that gets him. "A friend of mine, though? Terrified."

He will tease Prompto about it until the dawn's return. Even when he isn't within earshot to complain at said teasing, or how he conveniently doesn't say a word about how he's terrified of falling in an uncontrolled manner.
regisrex: (Y: Smile)

(YAY!)

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-29 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"A pilot license? You're planning to be flying these things? That sounds good." Head-tilt. "Private vessels, or ones carrying people or cargo?"
warpstriking: (bored ☈ million lights)

[personal profile] warpstriking 2018-05-31 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
"Eventually, yeah." He still has a few months of study before he'll even be allowed in the copilot's seat, so... He shrugs. "People, mostly. Though considering how many of us suddenly appeared at once, I won't be surprised if they ask some of us to ferry supplies as well."

There's just one thing in particular that he will ever refuse to ferry anywhere. Not that he feels the need to mention it, though.
regisrex: (Y: Wink)

[personal profile] regisrex 2018-05-31 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Regis can think of a few things that might be a firm no.

But he's more like fascinated, brightly, in what was said. "Yeah? There've been that many arrivals that the logistics've had to change?"

That's... interesting. Regis is frowning just a bit to himself, thinking of home and likely repercussions of the last changes, and perhaps refugees, and...

No, he can't go back right now. Until he can, he has to keep moving froward. Here. "What else do you think'll be needed?"
warpstriking: {least dave's on top of things...} (hnn ☈ in a straight line)

[personal profile] warpstriking 2018-05-31 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Noctis nodded. "There was somewhere around... eighty? When I arrived a couple months back. It was so unexpected from their usual one or two every decade or so that funds were extremely tight. They had to sacrifice on security to accommodate everyone."

Regis wasn't the only one frowning at the idea. Thinking back on it, he wasn't so certain he believed it in its entirety. Considering how many houses they still had available even after the huge wave of arrivals. It was clear someone at some point had planned for a large group of arrivals. How far back was anyone's guess, though.

"Employment and income for those of us who were suddenly displaced here. While there are plenty of options already, not everyone is cut out for things like retail, sports, or public services." ...For a second there, he almost sounded like Specs. Huh. "Not to mention more information on their planet than what they freely give at the Center. While they cover the basics, it's not nearly enough. Expecting everyone to just know the finer details."
