TEST DRIVE MEME

A. RETRIEVAL

Dreams fade slowly, and awareness returns in increments. The hum of machinery, the smell of recycled air, the murmurs of others waking up around you.

The interior of the ship has been outfitted with cots for those Biggs and Wedge retrieve from the Dream Width. Outside of the makeshift infirmary, windows set into the walls of the worn lounge area offer a view of space.

It’s time to meet your fellow new arrivals who have been brought together on Biggs and Wedge’s airship. None of you know how you came to be here or where you are going, and the door to the cockpit is locked as the pilots focus on navigating the treacherous obstacles of the Dream Width. You might as well take this moment to introduce yourself to your fellow travelers.

B. CURTI CENTER

There’s an almost overwhelming aura of excitement in the tower as researchers rush to document this unprecedented number of interdimensional travelers. Over the commotion, the leaders of the Center struggle to explain, ‘Welcome to Vaikuntha. We don’t know why you’ve been brought here, but this is your new home.’

The staff will do their best to help the off-worlders settle in. They answer the questions they can, provide maps and pamphlets about the world and the destinations within it, and even guide the arrivals to a neighborhood where housing has been provided for you. Yes, due to the strange influx of arrivals, you’ll be expected to share, but the Curti staff are doing the best they can under the circumstances.

Experiences like these bring people together. Perhaps you are the only one here from your world, but at least you are not alone in this experience. Others are right beside you, learning the same information, planning trips to visit the same new cities, checking out these Job things, and settling in to their new (temporary) homes.

C. UP IN THE SKY

There’s a whole new world to explore. It’s almost enough to distract from the fact that there’s one place you can’t go- home.

You are on an Airship, the main mode of transportation between the major cities of Vaikuntha. While the majority are owned by airlines, perhaps you hitched a ride with a friend that has their own. You can go anywhere in a matter of hours — One can only hope you don’t have motion sickness.

D. GUILDS

Proud representatives of the Guild are lined up, ready to demonstrate their skills for the new initiates. Make sure to stay behind the designated line, this might get dangerous.

So you want a new Job? You'll have to first travel to the Guilds, sign the papers, go through the orientation and introductory lectures, and get basic training. Afterwards, you can freely chat and practice with your fellow members, celebrating your new powers, and checking out your new wardrobe.

E. LET'S BE ADVENTURERS

Separated from all of your material possessions, connections, and everything you know, and really, what you’re left with is time. Better try to make the most of it.

Enough expository banter. It's explorin' time. Maybe instead of spending every day in your room, you'd rather spend it living it up in the city of Lavode, or betting on Chocobo Races in Sparks Goldsaucia. Or maybe you'd rather go and explore the caves and ruins near Arito. With Airships and Chocobos at your disposal, you can go nearly anywhere!

F. SIDEQUESTS

Maybe you’re telling yourself, ‘I didn’t sign up for this.’ But wait, you did. At least it pays.

It all started when you checked the Quest Board.  All you wanted was a few gil to spend, and here you are in the wild, hunting for a Malboro Vine. Or maybe you are in some ancient and decrepit ruins looking for an artifact. Or you could be asked to be janitor for a week. Consider yourself lucky though, at least you don't have to do that alone.

G. GET A JOB (THE OTHER KIND)

You’ve got a Job, but Claire keeps sighing and muttering about layabout space-people not earning their keep, so it might be time to seek out Employment as well.

There are plenty of opportunities to earn some gil in Vaikuntha, no matter where you choose to settle down. Your iMog slate includes listing for employment opportunities. Hopefully you can find something you can live with so that you can start saving up for an airship or the security payment for your permanent housing.

H. MOGNET

*Ding!* You’ve got Mog-Mail!

Thankfully, you can instantaneously chat with your friends around the world thanks to you iMog Slate. And unlike old-fashioned Moogle Letters, you can even send messages to everyone in a blink of an eye! However, despite the change in technology, the old tradition of Mognet Strikes have never gone away. Nobody knows any more whether the Moogles have legitimate reasons to go on strike or if they are just lazy. But today, Mognet is down, and to get information you have no choice but going to the public boards or risk message corruption and mishandling.

I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER

The ground trembles, and out of nowhere, something hostile appears! Is that battle music playing?

You were minding your own business walking around, and suddenly monsters attacked you! Time to put to use the skills you've learned with your Jobs! Will you try to fight on your own or seek help? And remember, you die in random battle, you die FOR REAL. There’s no shame from running from enemies that are a higher level than you!

[A. RETRIEVAL]

[This was... this was a bit much, wasn't it? OK, he had been in worse places before, worse situations before, worse accidental moments of "fate" before, but this was.... No, this was definitely weird. Had he falled through the Void somehow? It felt surreal.]

I have to be dreaming... I refuse to accept this as real.

[He wanted a vacation, this was too much!]

This is definitely a dream, right? Or a fanciful story, right? An exaggeration....

[No, he could feel it deep inside his heart, this was real and there was no way Yehn'a could lie to himself, even if he desperately wanted to.]

[D. GUILDS]

[There wasn't much choice, even though he had done all of this sort of stuff before his job crystals were missing now, all of his gear was missing in fact! He had his clothes but... they were missing something. It only made sense to seek out the guilds and see what he could lend himself to, even if it was a bit... well, what had to be done just had to be done. No reason to avoid it, sooner or later he would have to walk down that path.]

Some might think it's a chance to start something new, but I never did have much interest in anything else.

[No matter what Yehn'a was a mage through and through, so the first place he lined up was White Mage, though he wasn't set in stone yet.]

[I. RANDOM ENCOUNTER]

HELP!

[Where had those come from? Where had all of those come from! 10 Skeletons were chasing him and he could barely keep up his distance. This was ridiculous. If he stopped to try and cast they would definitely overwhelm him, but if he kept running... he would eventually give out. Surly there was someone who could come by and help, just one or two other people would make this situation salvageable.]

[ she stands, hands folded in front of her, as she looks out at the passing landscape on the airship's deck. it seems that the train of her dress isn’t quite made for high wind-speeds, and the white lace billows out a measure behind her. should someone approach, she’ll greet them with an incline of her head, a slight smile and : ] Please, stay. This does not seem a view that should be enjoyed alone.

It seems we’ve been tasked with their care.

[ she’s kneeling, in front of her three chocobo chicks who are as she has been instructed not to be left alone to get themselves into any mischief. one tries to climb up onto her lap, with… no success, only managing to bump into her knee, and she laughs lightly. indulgently, she picks up the chick, and places it on her lap uncaring of how it tracks dirt onto the white of her dress. ]

I admit, I do not have much experience with chocobos, but— [ one of the other chicks jumps as high as it’s able, attempts to snap an errant piece of her hair in it’s beak. ] I believe with the two of us, we’ll manage.

D. Sword Girl Gets Sword(and actual Pants)

[Having obtained the Swordmaster Asterisk with little trouble, Mythra now stands. She's stretching out her body a little, just to warm up a bit. After all, while lacking her usual capabilities, she does want to get a feel for things here. For how much of her power as the Aegis remains within her hands, even if not within her blade. Around her, set up, area whole variety of training dummies. Now, normally what you're supposed to do is try and just, hit them. Use practice weapons and all. But Mythra does not understand that. What she sees around her are targets. Targets for her to slice to pieces.

[Her movements are swift, technique dead on. She eviscerates all of the poor wooden training dummies misfortune enough to enter her path with a confident smirk and an almost crazed enthusiasm. Perhaps you were actually going to use this equipment, or maybe you were just there to bare witness to this display. Whatever the case, Mythra turns around after she finishes, wiping the sweat from her brow.]

"Well, that was underwhelming. This world really needs to ramp up its training exercises."

E. Sword Girl Goes On The Best Adventure of All, Reading

[Mythra has taken this opportunity to simply explore around town. Talk to the natives. Maybe buy some food. The usual things she did whenever she arrived anywhere. Having a pleasant stroll like this felt nice, but lonely. Without Rex or Nia or, even without her sister to talk to, it was all a little bit empty. Not having Pyra was just weird. But well, Pyra was probably still with Rex, living out their happy domestic life or whatever. She wouldn't want to just rip away her sister's happiness just so she could enjoy a bit of company.

[Now, you might wonder where this would take her. The answer is, straight to the library. She was already used to suddenly waking up in unfamiliar locations. But in those cases, she'd been thrown quickly into the fray and she had had people around her who were more familiar with things around her that had a reason to help her out. Here, Mythra was alone, but more importantly, there was nothing pressing down on her to act. She was an Aegis, making her own decisions without a Driver to follow wasn't exactly too intuitive. So after taking care of basic matters, what she needed was information. Right now she's aimlessly going through books, that is, until she can flag down a nearby person.]

"Excuse me. You have any sort of, geopolitical texts I can get my hands on? Thanks."

A.

The petite girl whimpered and stirred. The sounds were unfamiliar. The air didn't smell right. She frowned -- rather, pouted -- and rubbed her eyes as she woke.

"... Huh...?"

Meru looked around, then slowly rose to hang her legs over the edge of her cot. She didn't know this place. It wasn't scary, exactly -- she'd never say that. But it was unsettling that she couldn't see Guaraha anywhere, or Dart, or any of her friends.

C.

Meru talked big and insisted she was an adult... but she was still rather childish. And the fact that she had never seen anything quite like this "airship" before was plain to see by the way she pressed herself against the glass to look at the sky.

"Wow...!" Her breath fogged up her view and she quickly rubbed it away. "People built this thing?"

D.

"Alright!" Meru punched the air triumphantly, twirled, and struck a pose. Of course she would go to the Dancer's Guild -- what other choice was there? Dancing was her soul. Unfortunately, if she ever wanted to wield a hammer again, she'd have to travel to somewhere called Safer Osu and find some "Berserkers" or something. Whatever. They'd teach her what she needed to know, she was confident of that.

But for now, she was just excited to have another set of clothes she could move in. Flexibility meant everything to a dancer, and nobody liked a sweaty gross one. With her usual flashy garb plus this new outfit from the guild, she could actually stay cute and clean! What a relief!

She hummed to herself, continuing to sway and swirl as she studied her map, oblivious to anyone trying to pass her.

Fran | FFXII

C. Up in the Sky

[Viera might be born in the wood. Live with the wood. But they didn't have to remain with the wood. Fran believed long ago that the viera could become a part of the world, and so she did. Her freedom came at a great cost, but since leaving her home, she's seen things most viera would never set their eyes upon.

As a sky pirate, her feet left the ground and the vastness of the skies became a second home. Riding an airship is the most familiar sensation she's felt since arriving in this new world. Even if the wind on deck is a little chilly at times, Fran sits against the rail and watches as the clouds drift by.]

The world is changed. But the sky, the clouds, the wind, it is the same, is it not? A welcome sight, that.

[Sometimes it's the little things that can bring one comfort in strange surroundings.]

D. Guilds

[Bad enough she woke up in a strange new world, but on top of that, her magic and abilities were gone. It's not as if one forgets such things; especially as old and as trained as Fran may be. It's troubling to feel so disconnected, though it's not the first time. She lost a deep connection when she left her people in favor of a free life, but now her connection to natural things and even her very senses have been dulled further.

Having chosen the path of the archer, Fran picks up a bow and makes for the practice yard where she can be found letting an arrow fly at a distant target. This reminds her of her childhood, or her days practicing with her sisters. Only now, her keen eyes are not as sharp as they were back in Ivalice. The arrow is released and flies straight, but lands just a little off center. Normally, she wouldn't have to think much to hit her target. Now, she'll have to pay more attention.]

Is this how it is for a hume? It will take some practice.

[ I. Arrival ]

[ This is not his beautiful house or even restaurant. This is not his beautiful wife. Partner? Depends on the day. Wife last he checked. But he sighs, swinging his legs off the cot as he sits up and stretches. Okay. This could be worse. Ast could rip him a new one, really, when he gets back to them. That's fine. He'll deal with it then. But for now, he needs information. ]

Hello, any of you know where this is? I'd rather like to get back home. I've got a few businesses to run... I'm sure my workers will do find without me, but I'm still rather antsy.

[ IV. Guilds ]

[ Somehow, he's made his way to the Gourmand's guild. And he seems right at home. He knows how to cook. It's as much his realm as banishing pestilence and calling it upon the heads of those who he deems deserve it. Cooking and eating are second nature to one deemed the Demon of Gluttony, one of the Seven Princes of Hell. ]

Haha! Now this is more like it!

[ TIME TO COOK UP A STORM WITH BEELZEBUB. Who wants to try his cooking? He's willing to share, and he promises it's all things normal people can eat. ]

[ VII. Get a Job ]

[ Beelzebub knows healing. He was once, before he became a demon, a deity associated with healing sickness. He still kept plenty of that knowledge. It allowed him to be a good butcher when he followed his passions into being a chef, and a good chef, in his opinion, butchers their own meat. That way they know the ins and outs of it and where it came from. But for now, he feels, he will return to healing. So he has become a nurse, because he's not quite sure "former healing deity" counts. ]

How may I help you today?

[Airships. They certainly did bring back memories of her time in Crystallis. While her home realm had gods and all things supernatural who can fly, airships didn't exist. She looked out at the viewing gallery's panoramic window.]

Maybe this time I should get myself an airship. I wonder if I can get a pair of fuzzy dice to go with it while I'm at it.

D. Tastes like Chicken
[By default, Saori was more of a close combat fighter than a magic user. However, if there was one other thing she excelled at, it was cooking. This Gourmand job sounded rather familiar to a job she once had but never fully utilized it. At first, she kept quiet, observing the guild carrying out its daily activities until finally she just had to get to their kitchen. Some of the members are in awe as she makes quick but precise moves with her knife, careful not to let anything go to waste.]

Tell you, what. Give me a dish and I'll see if I can create it with what's in stock here. Anyone?

E. What's in a Name?
[When she got her hands on a world map, she honestly couldn't believe it. So many of these names she recognized. Sparks Golsaucia, Death Pool, Bahr Kip Island...she could keep going.

Lake of Ira. Kiddilion.

Nakagawa.

The map crinkled as she clenched it. Airship ticket prices and times be damned, she had to go and by sheer hard work, she did. Before she knew, she was on a hillside overlooking the town of Nakagawa. Her eyes stung slightly as they watered.

It's beautiful...if only the others were here to see this.

[ A – Retrieval ]

[The last thing that Shun truly remembers is wandering in the Fog. He hadn't been afraid – never, because that fear would only feed her, and Shun has never been one to admit defeat, not even when faced with the God that he has to thank for his change in appearance, who is keeping him from fighting the war back home.

From saving his sister.

Then… nothing but dreams upon dreams of the long lost past (when he had been human, when his world had been whole and not a shade of itself, a battlefield left in the wake of Akaba Leo's ambitions), or even some more recent memories (memories of Standard, of Synchro, of a year and more spent trying to find his way back there from Ryslig)… and now…

Now here he is, on the airship that looks much more modern than any technology he's ever seen in Ryslig, even inside the Arcade, frowning faintly at his deep black fingernails and feeling carefully over sharp teeth with his tongue. Wherever he is now, wherever they are being taken to… he's still a monster. (Good., he thinks viciously, because whoever wants his presence, is keeping him from home, is in for a hell of a surprise.)

He seems content to keep to himself for the times' being, but don't let that stop you from bothering him anyway!]

[ B – Curti Center ]

["We don’t know why you’ve been brought here, but this is your new home.", they say and Shun just grinds his teeth together, eyes narrow, but doesn't correct them. (There is no such thing as home for him anymore.)

Instead he listens, slowly gathering information about just where exactly he's wound up (even if they don't seem to be able to tell him just who exactly is keeping him here), and how this particular dimension works, takes the key to one of the houses offered to the newcomers in spite of his lack of intention to spend even a minute there.

Finally when the Curti staff member is done talking, Shun looks around at the other newcomers… are they eagerly buying what they are being told here, or are they as skeptical as he is? Finally he can't help but note.]

This is all too damn convenient.

[ G – Get A Job ]

[Shun admits (if ever only to himself), he would never have thought that his work experience at the Smashed Gargoyle would come handy eventually – but here he again, now actual wait service in a pub rather than just the gopher. Not that one could tell by the way he sits back against the bar, arms crossed over his chest while keeping his eyes on the pub's clientele. (At two and a half meter hight, he has to sit as he waits so he won't brush the top of the ceiling.

At least it's a slow night, leaving him not much to do. Unfortunately that leaves the few customers – who seem to have taken to liquid courage – about his appearance, one drunkard brave enough to make a grab for his bear ears, to see whether they are real or fake.

Unamused, Shun snatches his wrist before he can get anywhere, yellow eyes narrowed to a glare as he bares his sharp teeth in warning.]

Try that again, and lose that hand.

[Perhaps, someone should try to defuse the situation (because Shun sure won't)?]

B. Curti Center: A Sweet Reunion

[It had been a busy morning, to say the least. The diligence of scientists and aides seemed limitless as their eagerness and curiosity fueled their desires to help the newcomers into their world. Moments such as these were to be held as cherished memories, grand beginnings to stories yet untold.

Unfortunately, as it had been in the past, such sounds were fated to be drowned out by the unnecessary and boisterous sound of excitement. As if calling for the entire world to stop in place for such a momentous occasion, the pair of contrasting voices boomed loud above the gathering, seemingly taking no notice of the figureheads speaking as they did their best to inform and guide their guests.]

LU... L-LUUUUUUUUUFFY!!
PAKKU!! PAKKU! IT'S YOU!!

[The lanky young lad and the rotund moogle looked as if they had tried to run another over as they slammed into each other. The short arms of the moogle wrapped about the head of the loud young man, while he himself laughed loudly at having his face smothered by his old friend. Tears quickly, and in great number, ran down the face of the moogle as he frantically held onto his former Captain.

In the clash, a worn and old looking hat of straw had fallen to the floor. It rolled on its brim before settling upon the ground far from its owner and closer to the crowd of newcomers. With the inability to see thanks to the blindfold of the moogle's body, he had not yet noticed it was now off his person.]

PA-.. PAKKU! [Luffy struggled to say, hands reaching up to try and tear his pint-sized pirate friend from his face.] Geh-.. Geht.. Get off! You-You're.. AIR! NEED AIR!

[They're creating quite a racket, and it would be a shame if the hat was not returned to its proper owner. If the noise continues, it's a fair bet that many of the newly arrived will not hear the vital information they need to get on.. perhaps that's where you come in?]

D. Guilds: Wherein Luffy and Pakku Learn That There Is No Pirate Guild, and Must Now Seek a Different Vocation

[They'd been walking for quite some time, or rather, Luffy's feet had begun to grow tired while the fluttering wings of his moogle companion had been pushing the pain of fatigue for quite some time. They'd passed by many different guild fronts, uninterested in the prospects and promises of many well-to-do establishments that had surely drawn the curiosity of many other newly discovered persons. For Luffy, though, nothing had yet captured his attention.

Standing in the center of a clearing in the crowd, he raises both of his arms towards the sky. Fists clenched, lungs drawing in a fast measure of air, the young man shouts above the collection of citizens in a possible infraction of disturbing the peace.]

WHERE IS THE PIRATE GUILD?! How come there aren't any COOL places to sign up?!

[Pakku leaps forward and swipes his Captain across the back of the head with a heavy mitt.]

There's no use shouting! It's your own fault for being so picky! We wouldn't have gotten kicked out of the Gourmand Guild if you hadn't started eating your equipment! Look, just stay here and don't make a sound, okay? Leave it to me. I'll ask one of the folks here for more information on a good guild to join, ok?

[The plump pirate moogle flew with a heavy sigh towards different passerbys, trying to grab their attention for a moment to inquire as to where they were currently aligned.]

'Scuse me! Yes, you! Do you have a second? My Captain and I wanted to know which guild you belong to!

B. Curti Center

To her dismay, the numerous people with pointed ears like her own were not from her kingdom. It had been her hope that seeing such familiar features meant that she was not alone in this strange world. Usually, curiosity would overtake any sort of somber thinking, but thoughts of family and friends, and importantly of home, had clouded such behavior outright.

She found herself sitting on a bench, hands clasped atop her lap as her head grew heavy and lowered her eyes upon the floor. Unconsciously had her tears begun to fall, her thoughts so focused on the world she had been plucked from. It felt as if mere moments ago she was using the entirety of her being to keep nightmares at bay, speaking with the one glimmer of hope Hyrule had on its side. Now? Now she was crying in front of passerbys, lost, feeling hopeless and feeling as useless as a slotted spoon in a bowl of broth.

-------------------------

F.

While other vigilant adventurers would stay on task and keep to the trail, it was a different and all too difficult thing to keep a curious mind focused on what actually needed to be done. Zelda, and her insatiable thirst to explore the unknown, was once more crouched down on her hands and knees in the tall grass of the road side. She hadn't heard the others calling out to her, and it was only until she'd finally succeeded in her own personal side-quest that she once again approached the group with her recent discovery.

"Yes! I cannot believe I was able to find one! Here! Look at this! Can you believe it? I found a Dream Cricket! I heard some of the locals here saying that there are a variety of different uses for an insect matching this description. It can augment a lot of different feats for one who consumes it, but I have not yet seen one in practice. The space out here is not the most ideal, but that should not keep us from attempting a test."

She holds her hands out, cupping the the rather large insect but still allowing others to get a good sight of the bulbous eyes and fluttering legs as it hops for escape without success.

"Go on then", she orders, "Eat it! Someone of your stature and constitution should be just fine with this experiment. Eat it and we shall see just what happens. Well? Why do you hesitate? Go on then!"

[Thankfully, this isn't Alphonse's first song and dance like this- wake up on a spaceship, introduce yourself to everyone, then lots of waiting to find out what's going on. Might as well mingle, right?]

Hey, there. I'm Al. Are you doing okay?

C. Sky High

[There's a problem on the airship Alphonse is riding on; it seems like there's a weak point on the hull that's beginning to rip open, and the ship is shaking as the engineer on board struggles to figure out what to do. Al fights his way through an increasingly-panicked group of passengers to the breach, not bothering to make introductions.]

Can you guide this ship to the ground if the tear is fixed?

[When the engineer nods frantically, Al claps his hands together; blue light sparks between them as he lays his hands on the fracture in the hull, and it begins to knit itself together, albeit messily.]

Go. Make sure we get home safely.

F. Sidequest

[Al loves helping people. He likes to give back when he can, even when he's been away from home and his brother for so long. However, sometimes it's less than glamorous, like now. He's found himself knee-deep in mud, looking through a swampy area of a forest for a certain type of lizard he'd been hired to collect specimens of.

Also, he smells.]

[A. Retrieval]

[This...this was not Earth. Even as her senses started to kick in, she could feel it. She had expected to be summoned as part of the Grail War. But something was off. She didn't feel a connection to a master. It's almost as if...she were normal? No, there's still something, but it's unfamiliar.

She held her head, eyes still closed as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. She needed more time to adjust, but refused. This was a situation she wanted to know about NOW!]

What...what is going on?

[D. Guilds]

[It was a no brainer she would stick with the more magically-inclined classes. Never wielding a sword or bow properly, to choose those meant death. However, she wasn't a fan of the outfit, preferring her old robes. She was staring at the hat. Nothing seemed that special about it.]

I am aware of a need to choose clothes carefully, but are we not allowed to choose our own clothes?

[F. Sidequests]

[She didn't like working with others. She wasn't even a fan of this group as they were making plans. But she had to. No one wanted to do these tasks like fighting a Malboro on their own; she sure didn't. So don't mind her while she is exploring a dungeon with a group, she is making notes on the map.]

Two routes left, though I advise going to the left. It could just lead to a dead end.

[I. Random Encounter]

[It was supposed to be simple, just gather a few materials and try to test them out for a little experiment. What could go wrong? Well how about a Behemoth currently lurking about within the forest, forcing Caster to hide from it. She was already pretty damaged, robes torn, and a scratch across her cheek. It was much faster than she predicted, and strong too. She was lucky to just get away. All she had to do was wait, and pray it looked away long enough for her to run.

...Although, if someone were to come across this beast and kill it, the spoils it carried could be valuable as well. Another tempting thought. But that was going to be plan B. She was too distracted by the lumbering beast to notice someone else approaching the area...]

[J. Wild Card]

[Reading was fun, right? ...Well not when it's work. And that was precisely why Caster buried herself in books within the library. One could also see a map too buried under there, with some notes scribbled onto there. What was she doing? Researching monsters and their weaknesses. Back in her time before she became a Servant, knowledge like this wasn't always recorded reliably. Sadly, the same could be said here as she has a few different answers on monsters.]

Beginning to wonder if this one even traveled here at all. [She grumbles as she crosses out the information.] Starting to see why many others choose to record this information for themselves.

E- Let’s Be Adventurers

[Venturing to Von Oktavia or the surrounding areas? There is an eager new hire from the Curti Center accompanying you as a guide and protector. Ramza gestures at the city entrance, his movements seemingly not hindered by the heavy Paladin’s armor he wears. The armor and the sword at his belt show the signs of use, more than a sixteen-year-old could have possibly put on it.]

My childhood home is north of here, but I have lived in Von Oktavia for nigh two years. Pray tell me what you wish to see here, and I shall escort you there.

[His speech pattern is more archaic than most of the locals of Von Oktavia, but at least his words convey his excitement at this first assignment from the Center.]

I- Random Encounter

[Being attacked by Elementals is not ideal, but at least it is not one of Vaikuntha’s more powerful breed of beasts. Ramza draws his sword and steps in front of his companion protectively.]

Have no fear, I shall Cover you! Geronimo!

[Using his Job skills, he will take the damage aimed at his ally until they can decide whether to fight or flee.]

B - Introductions

[There's a moogle zipping around the place at top speed, skirting between people, climbing on top of things to try to get a better vantage point. She's up and down and all over and she's certainly not being quiet about it.]

MARY~ WHERE ARE YOU, KUPO~

[Certainly the moogles are supposed to be helping out the new arrivals, right? But this one seems to be putting far more effort into it than the others. As if she's met the person she's looking for somehow.]

D - Guild Visits

[It took a little time but Bonnie eventually found her way to the Ninja Guild. She couldn't find the real one she was looking for, even as she not so carefully namedropped it, but this seemed like the closest fit. At least some of the training she got from Mary should help right? Though it seemed she must have slept on her wings wrong and she wasn't as agile as she hoped.

Things were getting frustrating at the hall itself too.
]

No, kupo~ I'm not here for someone else. I want to join, kupo~

I - Random Encounter

[Okay, Bonnie had her jobs sorted out, things were set up nicely. It was more effort than she expected but she was absolutely sure that it was easier back in Crystallis.

In any case, time to test things out! The hood wearing moogle perches on top of a stone bridge that passes over a small stream, waiting for a right moment to strike.

With a leap and a mighty 'KUPO~!' she slams into the Sahagin with so much force that as it tumbles away both the attacker and the attacked just gape in surprise, trying to figure out what just happened. Bonnie is the first to gather herself, giggling in glee.
]

I really am a Hero now! Kupo!

[Even so....it might be best if she gets some backup as her fishturtle foe begins to recover its wits and gathers up its spear to counterattack.]

A - You May Find Yourself Living In A Shotgun Shack
[Black Mage groans as he comes to on in this strange cabin with strange people he doesn't know and...

He quickly looks around and doesn't immediately see Fighter. He could almost squeal with joy! He quickly rushes to check out the windows and sees that they're traveling through whatever this is. Whatever is going on and wherever they are going, only one thing matters. Maybe, for once, he's free!

So he calls to the nearest person.]

Hey you! You there! What day is it?

D - And You May Ask Yourself How Do I Work This?
[The angry little man is currently arguing with the recruiter of the Black Mage guild in Kiddilion. It's not very effective.]

What do you mean I can't just be a master of the dark arts? My name is literally Black Mage! Do you know how many people I had to murder to gain this power? No? And now I have to start with basic spells?

[No, he's still signing up he's just bitter about it. Honestly, who wouldn't choose Black Mage? It's the best job out there. He's not going to pretend to be some sort of sword wielding idiot.]

E - And You May Find Yourself Behind The Wheel Of A Large Automobile
[Black Mage is going to Black Mage. He's out and about testing out his exceptionally limited power. He summons forth the fire element and lets loose on anything and everything he can target. That tree? A small rabbit? A batch of flowers? All on fire. Wait, that's not a small rabbit, it's not dead and it's coming right for him now!

He keeps shooting fire and trying to flee now! Anyone can catch BM as he panics and blasts fire, his robes flapping in the wind as he seems like he's breathing way too hard. He's not always targeting the actual threat.]

I will... see you... in hell!

[He's out of breath. He's run like 20 feet. He's not built for this.]

Nico Robin | One Piece (haven't decided on pre or post time skip yet)

C) Up in the Sky

Robin had dealt with her awakening with a fair amount of calm, moreso than most others. Given the way her life had gone she expected the worst from the moment her eyes opened and...winding up on some other world entirely was actually not the worst thing she could imagine. At least she wasn't bound in chains this time. The fact that her powers weren't working right now was disconcerting, but the explanation she was given was acceptable, even if it wasn't comforting.

For now though, she stands at the bay window of the airship lounge, watching the scenery go by far below, gently leaning against the window with one hand. Her fingers twitch as she tries to sprout another hand but fails. She glances at her hand, frowning briefly, but then looks back out at her view.

"I never thought I'd see the ocean from this far up." The crew had certainly taken some high vantage points before, but nothing as peaceful as this.

D) Guilds

Listening to the explanations of the guilds and the boons the Jobs could offer them, Robin was quietly fascinated. It was interesting that powers and skills that would be horded by the Marines and the World Government in her own world would be so freely shared here. And that she could so openly engage in the study of Archaeology certainly caught her interest. Scholar was definitely something on her short list.

But as each Guild made their offer her eyes lit up with a soft twinkle at one in particular. She stepped ahead of the others and got just a touch too deep into the guildmaster's personal space.

"Yes. I'd like to know more about this Necromancy."

G) Other Jobs

But regardless of her choices of Job, the fact that she could openly and peacefully research this world was not something to be passed up on. She left her name with different institutions she could reach, but for the time being the library seemed like a nice place to settle. After all, this would be the best way for her to learn about this world in general before she started to dig into its secrets.

Unfortunately, it seemed all her papers, unpublished as they were, were still back in her home world, so she wasn't able to start herself off as a section curator, but that was just fine.

She smiled as she sat at the reference desk, fingers clasped as she looked at the approaching customer. Her eagerness was sincere, a thing that might be a surprise to those who knew her.

"Hello! How can I help you?"

A.
[When his wife, Saori, had returned from an expedition, she not only brought back a certain assassin but a story of another world they had saved from calamity. At first, it was hard to believe that was all done in what was about a day's time but now that he was in a world created by that story, his belief in the story was further strengthened. ]

Huh, I suppose it was my turn to get wrapped up in another world's crisis. Wonder what Saori and Mary would make of this.

D. Guilds
[Kenichi knew the Dragoon job called out to him but he realized he would benefit from having a second one. The question was, which one? As he read up on the other jobs, his eyes landed on Cavalier and where that guild was located piqued his interest. When he arrives at the guild, he obviously needed to get a Chocobo mount.

No one told how difficult this could be though. He did have some those greens the ranch hands told him to use but luck wasn't on his side. He must've been at it for an hour or so before he had to take a break, leaning against a wooden fence.
]

And here I thought chasing after the twins was hard. There must be some sort of trick I'm missing.

E. Exploring
[Before he knew it, Kenichi found himself in the town of Nakagawa. While yes it was a common Japanese family name, he knew who this town was named after. He knew she'd be in tears knowing she'd be honoured with such beautiful place named after her. After all that travelling, he decided to make his way to the inn, where he was sure to meet up with other heroes. He helps himself to beer before turning to the person sitting next to him.]

So, what do you make of all of this?

[Alyce has rushed to the side of the ship, perhaps looking ready to jump off. Instead of taking a leap of faith, the wide-eyed girl grips the side of the airship and stares at the view in awe.

Then, quite childishly, she throws up her arms.]

Amazing! What is this view? This is amazing~! [She looks over her shoulder, making eye contact with the nearest stranger.] Is this normal for you mortals?!

[B. Curti Center]

[Alyce has been in amazingly high spirits thus far. To her, this is all some sort of very fun field trip. She's been having a blast gathering pamphlets and getting obnoxiously hyped about everything. With her spirits at their highest, she throws open the door to her temporary housing.]

A house! A real house~! Uaaaaiii! Are you here, Uai? [And rather rapidly, her good mood seems to hit a wall. A wall of a realization: This 'Uai' isn't here, and Alyce seems to have expected him to be at the house.] Uai...? Where is he..?

[And then, spotting her fellow house resident:] ... Who are you?

[Warning: she's about to be heartbroken.]

Rrgh- waitwait, hold on. This wooly lining's givin' me a bad itch...

[Who needs a tank? You've got a tank. Though some wonder where the 'berserker' line ends and 'Kanji' begins, he seemed to be doing alright after the several-hour chocobo ride to the forest to seek a treasure nestled within its core. But as he grasped his jacket and rolled his shoulders, he was having a bit of a wardrobe malfunction with the soft-lined armor granted to him by the guild.

Though he grunted confirmation that he'd fixed the issue- a lie, and he'd need to check the lining later to see if the wool had been treated properly prior to armor crafting- he still looked a tad surly as he shook the very large war hammer from his back. The way he swung it, it was like it weighed nothing at all.]

A'right, good enough. Got that map handy? This place looks huge...

[G- Get a Job (The Other Kind)!]

HrrrrrrRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAUGH!

[Never let a berserker clean your house. Never let a berserker clean your house. Because what happens is a man that's down on the floor, roaring at the dust and dirt as he pushes a rag along the hardwood. He raced down the hallways, powered by sheer testosterone... or boredom. This was just like cleaning the textile shop back home.

Ever stop in and see how damn clean the place is? You're welcome.

But the owners of this particular item shop are standing on their chairs, eyes side as saucers as they watch all of this happening. That's when you come in, and are greeted in a rather distracted tone, all while the sounds of some kind of wild beast are going on in the back. If you lean, you see glimpses of some form hunched on the floor racing along.]

[I- Random Encounter!]

[Welp, showtime. Maybe you were in a bit of a jam or accidentally wandered off alone to do a little training. Whatever the case, that's a behemoth, all horns and a lofty shade of purple and a hell of a lot of magic nobody wants to deal with.

But before it can strike back, something clocks it right over the head and sends it reeling. Running after the object was some guy clad in armors of the Berserker's Guild, who gathers up the fallen hammer and falls back into line. As the beast bellows its anger over being struck, he bares a toothy grin right back. Living here was kind of awesome, if a bit... dangerous.]

I gotcha! It's your turn!

[He nodded to you.]

E - At The Races

[If you had met H'zez outside of the brilliant lights, jolly music and clamouring of people both throwing money to the wind and people trying to entice others to part with their earnings, you might have been surprised to find the dark-skinned Miqo'te so invested in the chocobo races at the Golsaucia. Regardless, there you will find him, ears pricked up attentively and tail idly twitching from side to side as he watches the many-coloured birds and their riders burst forth from the gates and take to the course.]

All right, Polished Mast, you can do this... [He mutters to himself.]

[Perhaps you've also placed a bet on a racing bird and are something like a rival to H'zez. Perhaps you've placed a bet on the same one and hope to celebrate or commiserate with him depending on the outcome. Or perhaps you think all of this a waste of time and money. Either way, feel free to try and catch his attention!]

G - On The Farm

[Considering how much time H'zez had spent on rather more perilous adventures lately, he always found himself on the lookout for something a little more sedate to do with his time. If, in doing so, he could earn some money from his endeavours then all the better! Given that he already had a strong affinity with his own snow white chocobo companion, Icarus, H'zez had chosen to earn a little money down on the chocobo farms, helping to care for other birds to the best of his ability.

...a shame then that not all the chocobos there were as easy to handle as his faithful steed. If you venture closer, you might find the poor guy doing his best to calm down a fiery black chocobo, hell-bent on staying out of his stable. H'zez is clinging on to his lead rope as tightly as he can, just hoping that the bird doesn't decide to take off with how violently it's flapping its wings!]

I - On The Hook

[Despite H'zez trying his best to relax in between more pressing matters, it seemed that Fate had other plans for him, this time in the form of a sudden battle! One minute he was sitting at the waterside waiting for a bite, the next he's nearly pulled right in when something powerful chooses to grab hold! It's all H'zez can do but to let his rod go before he goes hurtling into the depths, or worse, right into the mouth of whatever it was he had just snagged. His furry ears and tail bristling as he senses danger, the Miqo'te takes up his spear which was thankfully never too far away from him (it was a good fishing tool too sometimes after all), and watches the churning waters warily.

What emerges is a giant enemy crab, its shell adorned with sharp corals and sponges. It raises its claws in an aggressive posture, preparing for its next move.]

[Whiteness all around her. The echoing footsteps of her friends.

Squall. She had to find Squall. The flower field. That’s what she had to focus on. They place they swore to meet. If she can just get there…

Wakefullness comes slowly in what doesn’t feel like a bed of flowers, but there are voices around her, so she must have made it.]

Squall! [ Her eyes snap open and she shoots up suddenly, looking around for that familiar face.]

...Squall?

[She can’t help the tears sliding down her face. No, this… this isn’t right at all. The field! Him! She had focused everything on it, she was sure of it, but it looks like she had failed and now she was… wherever this was. Whenever this was.

This has to be a dream, right? There… there’s still a way back to him, isn’t there?]

Curti Center
[If there’s one thing Rinoa is good at, it’s stubbornness. She’s heard the Curti Center is the place to go for answers, and damn if she doesn’t have a thousand questions. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be going very well.]

What do you mean we can’t go home? I don’t want a house, I want to go back!

I’m very sorry, Miss, but there’s nothing we can do. We don’t really understand what’s going on ourselves.

Well someone has to! Let me talk to them!

[So far every attendant has given her the same answer and none have been any help. She’s losing her mind over here.]

Job - the other kind!
[It had taken a while, but Rinoa had finally resigned to the fact that she was stuck here for a while, which unfortunately meant finding work. She’s doubtful that “I lead a rebel force” is going to get her anywhere here, so she’s settled as a waitress at a little cafe. Seemed easy enough and a job she wouldn’t feel guilty about leaving without much notice in case someone finds a way back.

She hears the bell ring, signalling someone has entered the shop. She turns to face them with a smile.]

Hi, what can I get for you?

Job - the other other kind
[Upon learning that all of her summons were gone, it doesn’t take Rinoa long to sign up for the summoner’s guild. Apparently it starts with learning some magic, which she’s shocked she doesn’t have to draw from an elementally charged location first. Well that’s nifty!

The other shock, however…]

Wait, so I don’t just battle them and gain their loyalty if I win? This sounds a lot more complicated than I’m used to.

He may not have paid attention to his training when he was younger, but he’s older now, more wise, right? Surly he wouldn’t make that mistake twice… right? He just has to think back…]

"This next bit is really important, especially if you’re, I don’t know, facing off against coeurl three times your size. So you begin by shifting into…"

She didn't feel or see any bandages on her person so that cannot be right. Not only that but the structure she was in now did not look like anything from Nohr or Hoshido...was it Valite? And where was everyone? And why does it feel like the room is moving?]

Oh dear, this was not what I was expecting at all.

[And where was her axe and wyvern comrade?]

I'm afraid there is a mistake; I am needed back in my world.

[Camilla does not sound panicky but there is a sense of urgency in her tone along with her sweetness. However as she goes through basic training, there is the one recruit that everyone hates. You know, the assholes who think they're hot stuff and gift to all? Making a snide comment to Camilla about how she looked and how this guild was no place for her...that is until she smiles sweetly and lifts the man over her head.

Now this scene was also in a public setting so anyone can see this. And Camilla is smirking because he brought it on himself.]

Or did they believe silly rumors about Lalafells being traitorous and evil, as had that one guard in Ishgard?

The foolishness of people truly knew no bounds.

[ Was it all really real? Was this reality? A world outside of the code's boundaries? Or just another lie in which she had to live? If she were to trust her instincts, she would say it was all real. She could no longer feel any reality beyond her own-- She could no longer mess with the code..

For most of the people who had been rescued, being taken away from their worlds must doubtlessly have been a tragedy. But for her, it was a dream accomplished. If it was real.

And what better way to test reality than to jump headfirst into battle and risk dying against deadly monsters? A dozen Shagins at least, and more were probably on their way. She had tagged along with a few like her. She wasn't really interested in the monsters, but in her companions's reactions. AIs were so predictable, she'd see it right away if these people were real or not.

She used Prismatic Missiles, but Necromancers really weren't any good with a 0 kill count. Which was perfect for her little experiment. ]
